Career Insight

What does a Paralegal do?

Paralegals work side-by-side with lawyers, doing almost everything they do except argue cases in court. This differentiates you from a legal secretary, who does mostly administrative tasks. As a skilled Paralegal, you’ll play a crucial role in preparing legal documents, researching cases, and more. In order to succeed and advance in this career field, you’ll need to work independently and be able to pay close attention to details. It’s also essential that you possess top-notch communication skills. Depending on your experience and the type of law your office practices, some of your day-to-day tasks could include:

 Conduct legal research

 Answer client questions

Conduct interviews and investigations

Draft contracts, pleadings, and other legal documents

Help the legal team prepare for trial
